2005 Banding Survey

2005 MONTANA  HUMMINGBIRD  BANDING  SUMMARY

          banding conducted for 104 days (May 3 – Aug 15) at   51  individual locations.

 CALLIOPE = 1730     FEMALES=983   (916 adults, 67 juveniles)

                                     Males     =747   (676 adults, 71 juveniles)

(215  adult  female  calliope  were  observed  with  egg).

rufous     = 1633     females=774   (641 adults, 133 juvenile)

                                     Males     =859   (688 adults, 171 juvenile)

(44  adult  female  rufous  were  observed  with  egg).

black-      =       7      females=    4    (3 adults, 1 juvenile)

chinned                      males    =     3    (3 adults, 0 juvenile)

broad-      =      13    females=     8    (8 adults, 0 juvenile)

tailed                        males     =     5    (5 adults, 0 juvenile)

                             Note: 2  broad-tailed banded in Helena area

                                        11 broad-tailed banded in red lodge.

annas        =        1    juvenile male

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

hybrids     =        3    all were adult males

2 probable  calliope   x  rufous  ;  and

1 probable  calliope   x  broad-tailed.

SIGNIFICANT RECAPTURES for 2005 INCLUDE 2 FEMALE RUFOUS ORIGINALLY BANDED NEAR BIGFORK, MT IN 2004 AS JUVENILES AND RECAPTURED AT TIZER GARDENS AND NEAR AUSTIN THIS YEAR.        Three calliope originally banded as adults in 2002 near red lodge, were recaptured again there this year, 2005, making these birds at least 4 years old.
